Rare diseases are conditions that affect fewer than 1 in 4,000 people. As there are over 6,000 known rare diseases, you may have encountered someone with a rare disease, without realising it. To commemorate Rare Disease Day today, Dato' Hatijah Ayob, President of the Malaysian Rare Disorders Society, and Dr Winnie Ong Pei Tee, Clinical Geneticist from Hospital Kuala Lumpur, discuss more about these little-known diseases. They are also joined by Maizan Mohd Salleh, former president of KL and Selangor Albinism Association, and Nadiah Hanim, regional representative of the Phelan-McDermid Syndrome Foundation and a parent of a child with PMS.
