From carpet-cleaning chemicals to seasonal winds from Central Asia, the causes of Kawasaki Disease remain a mystery to this day. It is a rare but potentially serious illness that is notoriously tough to diagnose. Recently, the Singapore Medical Council suspended a paediatrician for failing to diagnose the disease, raising concerns that doctors may resort to practicing defensive medicine. We speak to Dr Hung Liang Choo, paediatrician, and Sharon Palani, medico legal expert, on the ins and outs of the disease and the debate surrounding defensive medicine.
