Earlier this month, it was reported in the news that Malaysia’s social security organisation (SOCSO) or PERKESO has suffered a data breach involving personal data. A group self-described as ethical hackers posted a forum thread highlighting that the PERKESO’s portal as well as a database of its internal documents have been breached.
According to a report by Cybersecurity company Surfshark, Malaysia ranked as the eighth most breached country in Q3 2023 with 494,699 leaked accounts, a significant increase of 144% compared to the previous quarter.
With cyberattacks and data breaches getting rampant, is it a case of an organisation’s lack of IT security measures and practices? It seems that the hackers are always a few steps ahead. Can we outwit them?
Helping us with this conversation is CF Fong, Executive Chairman of LGMS Berhad and cybersecurity consultant, on how to enhance our country and organisations’ cybersecurity posture and crisis preparedness to counteract this rising tide of cyber threats.
