Today, we’re discussing a common but pressing issue - workplace discrimination. Despite advancements in awareness and treatment, recent data shows a worrying increase in reported cases of workplace discrimination over the past five years. This increase highlights a critical gap in our approach to creating a truly inclusive and supportive work environment.
Workplace discrimination can take many forms, from outright prejudice and exclusion to more subtle biases that affect career progression and workplace interactions. Such discrimination not only harms us individuals at work but also undermines the overall health of the organisation by creating a stigma and reducing morale.
In today’s conversation, we speak with Selvamalar Alagaratnam, Partner & Head of Employment Practice Group at Skrine and we’ll be talking about what causes workplace discrimination and explore the existing legal protections in Malaysia as well as the role of various support mechanisms available in today’s workplace environment. Amongst other things, we’ll also be discussing how companies can proactively prevent discrimination and implement the best practices to ensure a fair and inclusive workplace for all employees.
