Data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security indicates that our consumption of imported foods has steadily increased over the years, with Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi saying Malaysia cannot be reliant on food imports in the long term. Which begs the question, why are we not harnessing our own potential for agriculture and farming? We speak with an economist about how to reduce our over-reliance on food imports, and then later, we get tips and tricks from a chef on how we can do better with cooking and eating local.
