You might not know this, but back in the day, we had nature studies in Malaysian primary schools, which aimed to provide students with a basic understanding of their natural environment. An article in Macaranga titled “Nurturing A Nature Revival” written by Surin Suksuwan, details this period in time and urges the reintroduction of this syllabus in our current education system. So we talk to Surin about where he's coming from, and how the learning of nature would push better environmental awareness among students. Then, we opened the floor to our listeners to ask them what shaped their worldview about the environment.
