The UNHCR reported recently that there are nearly 150,000 refugees and asylum-seekers currently residing in Malaysia. Without legal access to the employment, many refugees are unable to find work to support themselves and their families.
However, a recent statement from Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed has opened up the possibility that refugees will have legal access to the job market. Today on Current Affairs, we discuss the state of Rohingya refugees in the country, and their possible impact on the Malaysian economy.
This is a report by Azlyn Balqis and Lyn Mak.
