The Special Affairs Department (JASA) was perceived by many as a propaganda unit of the Barisan Nasional government, which is why its RM85 million allocation in Budget 2021 is viewed with unease. We discuss broadly the problems with state propaganda, as well as the history behind JASA and whether it can shed its stigmatized reputation.
