Rooting for Rotan

Being a commonplace item in our childhood households, rotan furniture brings back the feeling of nostalgia and local tradition. Now making its comeback in millennial hipster’s home all across the globe, rotan furniture adds a sustainable and cultural touch to any modern home. With a passion to reclaim and refresh an old tradition, Nana Khan of The Rotan Lot customises and sells all kinds of rotan furniture - from butterfly chairs to intricately woven bed headboards. We sit down with the founder, to discuss how durable, ethical and profitable the process of rotan-making is, and how it’s helping to alleviate the economy of rural South East Asia areas.
