Batik has always been a staple in traditional Malaysian fashion. But for the younger generation, batik is often only worn for celebrations and formal events. With her label FERN, Fern Chua hopes to bring it back to the masses with her elegant, feminine and modern pieces which fuse traditional batik with contemporary designs. Later, Emma Chong Johnston talks corsets, the controversial fashion piece formerly used to control women’s bodies, now reclaimed by female fashion designers.
